Why we built Mudroom Co

Thoughtfully engineered tools for active homes.

The brand

Mudroom Co is a small Australian brand that makes home care tools for active families. We build for the way people actually use their houses, not the way the catalogue says they do. We launched in August 2026 with the ShuCloud™ shoe wash bag, and The Shoe Wash Kit for those who want the shoe trees alongside it. More to follow. We are based in Melbourne and we are direct to consumer only at this stage.

The founder

My daughter came home from a colour run at school in her new ASICS. She had a perfectly good pair of old sneakers sitting by the door. She wore the new ones.

I wasn't going to throw them out, and I wasn't going to stand at the sink scrubbing pink dye out of white mesh. So I started researching how to wash them in the machine without wrecking them.

That is when I found shoe wash bags. Every one I could find was yellow, orange or green. All I could think about was the red sock that turns a white wash pink. Surely someone made one in white, or close to it. Nobody did.

If I couldn't find it, other mums couldn't either.

So I looked properly at what was on offer. Zips that pop open mid-cycle. Bright linings, and not a word about whether the colour stays put. Sizing that fits nobody in particular. Nobody talking to households that run hard.

The tools existed. None of them were made properly for the life we actually live.

The problem we noticed

Most shoe wash bags on the market have no separation between the shoes to prevent scuffing, and they are predominantly yellow, dark green or grey. Just as we know not to wash whites with brights or darks, the same applies to shoes. Do you really want to run the risk of colour transfer onto your white runners from a dark polyester pouch?

Then there is the zip. The single most cited complaint about these bags is a zip that opens mid cycle. Cheap zip tape, stitched once, lets both shoes loose in the drum. That one decision destroys the product inside three washes.

The solution

The ShuCloud™ shoe wash bag is built in Chalk chenille inside and out. The green zip, piping and tag are the only colour you see on it.

The chenille is dyed to a Pantone reference, like any coloured textile, so we will not tell you there is no dye in the bag. What we will tell you is the test. It is tested to ISO 105-C06 grade 4 colour fastness, so the colour stays in the fabric rather than on your shoes. The zip is engineered with a metal locking clip into a D-ring, teeth facing inward. The whole bag is stress tested to 50 cycles at 60°C and 1400 rpm, which is a durability test, not a wash instruction.

Canvas, mesh and synthetic. Not leather or suede. We would rather put the limit on the label than find it out in your laundry.
